Around 3 o’clock every afternoon I am always very hungry. While I would love to have a bowl of potato chips, I know I should be reaching for healthier alternatives. Try out these healthy snacks to grab between meals…

Carrots and Hummus

Carrot sticks and hummus are a great way to add carotene, fiber, vitamin and protein to your diet. Hummus may help you lose weight, lower cholesterol, strengthen bones and muscle, and improve skin. 

Sliced Tomato, Basil and Mozzarella

Thinly slice tomatoes, basil and mozzarella cheese (with olive oil and pepper) for a healthy snack loaded with vitamin C, protein, potassium, folate, and vitamin K. Tomatoes have been shown to reduce heart disease and cancer while mozzarella cheese contains probiotics which may improve gut health.

Peanuts and Blueberries

Combine peanuts and blueberries in a small bowl for a yummy snack any time of day. Blueberries are loaded with antioxidants and vitamin C and may promote heart health, bone strength and mental health. Peanuts are high in protein, fiber, omega-3, antioxidants, and may assist in weight loss.

Cottage Cheese and Avocado

Sliced avocado with a scoop of low-fat cottage cheese is a great snack that will get you through to dinnertime. Avocados are very nutritious and contain over 20 vitamins and minerals. They are a great way to improve skin and hair health while increasing energy and lowering weight. Cottage cheese is high in protein and may help prevent osteoporosis. 


Eating a small bowl of edamame will not only keep you satiated but these soybeans offer protein, vitamins, and minerals. Edamame may reduce the risk of certain types of cancers and bone loss.
