The 10 Best Cleaning Tips To Make Your Home Sparkle

This is the best time of year to clean your home, especially in the Northeast as the temperatures are rising. Throw open those windows, let the freshness in, and get rid of that stale winter air. Now that you have your safe cleaning supplies on hand, here’s a list of the 10 best cleaning tips to get your house in sparkling condition this spring…

1 Kitchen Sink

Make food odors go away and your kitchen smell great! Place a lemon (whole and cut up into slices) into the garbage disposal. The scent will freshen up the entire room.

2 Windows

Do you ever get frustrated after you clean your windows and see a trail of lint remaining? Toss aside the paper towels or cloth and use newspaper! Your windows will be completely clean with no residue. Also, clean them on a cloudy day so you’re better able to see the streaks.

3 Sponges

Sponges should be replaced every two weeks or month at the latest. I hear of people putting them in the dishwasher or microwave to clean them. They aren’t expensive… throw them out and start new. Bacteria and odor thrive off wet old sponges. If in doubt, throw it out.

4 Stove

Make your stove look brand new! Remove the burner grates and put them through the dishwasher. While those are washing, spray organic 3D Orange Degreaser on your stove and let sit. Wipe clean with a cloth, and replace the grates. Your stove with be degreased and look sparking clean!

5 Wood Surfaces

One of my favorite products for wood surfaces was introduced to me by a local antique store owner. Howard’s Feed-N-Wax Wood Polish brings back the beautiful natural grain of wood while leaving a gorgeous shine. Place a small amount on a cloth, wipe the surface, leave on for 20 minutes, and polish off with another cloth. Trust me, you will be amazed!

6 Couch

We know that carpet deodorizers work very well on carpets and rugs. It is perfectly safe to use on your couch as well. Sprinkle a small amount of Arm and Hammer Deodorizer Powder on your desired upholstered piece, wait 30 minutes, and vacuum.

7 Clean Less

Put your cleaning on a schedule. Certain rooms do not require as much cleaning as those more frequently used. Also, it takes minutes to pick up high traffic rooms. Spend some time at the end of the day to straighten pillows and wipe surfaces. This will keep your cleaning from piling up and give you more free time to do other things!

8 Wood Floors

Cleaning wood floors is a 4-part process. Vacuum first, then use a dry swiffer cloth to remove any remaining dirt. Next, use a wet cleaning cloth specific for wood. Finish the process with Holloway House Quick Shine. Your floors will look like new!

9 Candles

Trying to clean your candle holders? Instead of using hot water and risk breaking your holder, place in the freezer until frozen. The leftover wax hardens and is easy to remove!

10 Diffuser

Make your home smell great while adding moisture into the air. Place your favorite essential oil (lemon, lavender, etc) into a diffuser. If you don’t like the look of it, place in an inconspicuous spot. Additionally, each essential oil offers a special quality. Lavender in the air will be calming while peppermint will be invigorating.

Happy cleaning!
