Who doesn’t want gorgeous, well-manicured, strong, healthy nails?
But, as we deal with Covid still in our communities, going to get a manicure has meant a whole new set of problems. For those of us who can’t live without polished hands, there are some alternatives.
The At-Home Gel Set
I’ve become a big fan of the at-home gel set. With a little practice, you can develop a steady hand and manage a salon look right from the comfort of your home. The best news is: once you master this technique, you’ll only need to do your nails about once every 10-14 days, and you’ll save a ton of money. While a full set at a salon can run between $40-$60 dollars, the equipment to do the manicure is roughly the same price…meaning this pays for itself on the first go.
Tip: Be careful not to get any polish on your hand or skin and keep the coats light and thin and even. This helps ensure a longer wear.
I love this kit ($40) because it has some great colors (the pale pinks are stunning) and can be easily used on toes, as well. It comes with a great little manicure set which is an added bonus.
The At-Home Traditional Manicure
For those that are looking for a less industrial style manicure, and want to ensure a long lasting polish that doesn’t need a constant touch up, I’d recommend taking a look at the extraordinary polishes by Butter.
If you really want to splurge, take a look at this Guilty Pleasure kit with 18 different colors including my some absolute favorites in red, pale pink and blue. It’s $160 but, at less than $10 a polish (compared to the regular $18 a pop) it’s a relative deal.
Whether you decide on the traditional manicure (don’t forget to dry!) or the gel set, having a manicured look really helps give you that extra boost. It helps me feel ready (even without a bit of makeup!) and can now be done pretty easily from the comfort of your own home.
