Chemical Peels… Friend or Foe?

To peel or not to peel, that is the question…

If you are a fan of the series “Sex and The City,” you will certainly remember the episode when Samantha is convinced to do a chemical peel prior to Carrie’s book launch party. As her publicist, Samantha must show up at Carrie’s event even though her appearance is so scary that young children hide from her.

Although funny, this scene scared many into thinking chemical peels are terrible… and terrifying!

As a skincare expert, and someone who has helped many clients achieve their desired skincare goals, I am a huge advocate for chemical peels. I educate my clients so they understand that there is a specific peel to meet the needs of every individual. So looking like Samantha, when you have a big event coming up, does not need to happen.

Chemical peels have many benefits:

  • Most have minimal downtime
  • Gives your complexion a major boost
  • Takes anti-aging to the next level without harsh lasers or expensive plastic surgery
  • Maximum results to fit any budget
  • Many different formulations to fit your skincare needs

At my skincare practice, I use a range of different chemical peels to achieve amazing results depending on the needs of my client.

Glycolic Acid peels I know the word “acid” sounds scary. However, in reality, it is a naturally occurring substance found in many fruits. It plays a major role in exfoliation and minimizing pore size. It also helps improve the appearance of acne scars.

Alpha Beta peels alpha and beta acids are combined for a powerful resurfacing with minimal downtime. This peel is perfect for those prone to fine lines, acne and unwanted shine.

TCA- 15%-30% trichloroacetic acid, or TCA, is used to improve the appearance and texture of the skin. These peels are anti-aging, minimize melasma from pregnancy, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. Based on the percentage of TCA used, will determine the recovery time. 25%-30% requires a little more down time (3-5 days of peeling).

Depending on your skin type and desired results will determine which peel is best for you. Visit a skincare specialist to discuss your options and you can have a refreshed skin tone and texture in less than a week! I’ve yet to meet anyone who doesn’t want that…

Please note: Chemical peels are not recommended during the summer months. And always wear sunscreen to protect against sun exposure and prevent damage.
