The Best Split Pea with Ham Recipe

It’s no secret that we love soup at Mystical Living! Soups are yummy, easy to make, and ideal for freezing leftovers for a future dinner. In particular, Split Pea with Ham has always been a favorite of mine and it’s a great source of protein and fiber. Frozen soup will keep for 3 months! Enjoy!

Total cook time: 3 hours (20 minutes of prep)

Servings: 8

Ingredients:

2 cups (or 1 pound) of rinsed split peas

1 chopped onion

1 ham bone

1 1/2 cup of chopped ham

3 carrots (or 1 1/2 cups) cut into small pieces

1/4 teaspoon of pepper

8 cups of water

Preparation:

Bring water and peas to a boil for 2 minutes (uncovered)

Let stand 1 hour

Add onion, pepper and ham bone and bring to a boil

Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 1 hour (or until peas are soft)

Remove ham bone and add chopped ham

Stir in carrots and heat to a boil then cover

Simmer until carrots are soft

Garnish with parsley and/or thinly sliced pieces of ham

Enjoy!
