Top 5 New Netflix Shows To Check Out This Week

Founded in 1997, Netflix has become one of the most popular entertainment platforms in the world. With over 200 million subscribers, what series you’re watching has become a frequent topic in mainstream conversation. After dinner during the week, Chris and I enjoy sitting down to watch an episode or two (alright, sometimes three if it’s really good) of our current series. Here’s a list of newly released top 5 shows for you to check out this week…

1 Queen of the South

If you like action, this show is for you. A poor, young Mexican woman becomes the head a huge drug cartel with many life-threatening and nail-biting experiences along the way. Be warned, this series is violent but incredibly written with amazing character development. We were hooked after the first episode. A definite must-see!

2 The Queen’s Gambit

Set in the 1960s, a young orphan discovers she has an incredible talent. After learning the game of chess from the caretaker of her orphanage, and struggling with a drug addiction along the way, Beth Harmon becomes the world’s best chess player. What is interesting about this coming of age series is you don’t need to like chess to enjoy the storyline. Its ups and downs will keep you entertained for the duration of the one-season show.

3 Bridgerton

If you loved “Gossip Girl,” you’ll enjoy this early 1800 series variation. Set in London, the show follows the life of Daphne, the oldest daughter of the Bridgerton family, as she looks for love and marriage. Narrated by Lady Whistledown, who reveals every move of the townspeople, this is a light-hearted and romantic series that you are sure to enjoy. Full disclosure- Chris was not a fan of this show but I loved it!

4 Ratched

I love suspenseful thrillers and I love the actress Sarah Paulson, who also starred in the “American Horror Story” series. Inspired by the character Nurse Ratched from “One Flew Over the Cuckow’s Nest,” the story follows Mildred as she becomes the head nurse of a mental institution where experiments are conducted on the human mind. With incredible acting and plot development, this series will keep you entertained.

Whenever you find yourself rooting for the bad guy, you know it’s a good show. “You” is a psychological thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat. Based on a bookstore manager, who will do anything for love, this show is an easy binge-watch. You’ll find yourself in many uncomfortable situations along with the lead character!
